Creating a self sufficient garden in your own backyard is a very fun and easy thing to do and even beginners can enjoy its benefits. The aquaponics method of gardening is getting popular because it can be prepared easily with only few materials needed to build a garden that can produce fresh veggies, fruits, herbs, and healthy fish. Its your choice whether to grow ornamental fish or fish intended for consumption.
The aquaponic system does not only provides fresh food, but it also helps you save money while enjoying fresh treats from your own backyard garden.
The preparation is quite easy but like all other gardens, waiting is always part of the process. It takes one month or so for the fish and bacteria to establish itself and helps the whole process of keeping a healthy garden, then you will be able to grow plant successfully.
The wastes from the fish are used to fertilize the garden bed and provide the nutritional needs of the plants. The plant roots, gravel, and sand from the garden bed purifies the water and sends it back to the pond or aquarium oxygenated and very suitable for the fish to grow and stay healthy.
The whole process will just then repeat until water supply is there, another great thing about the aquaponics method of gardening is that it only uses 10% of the water supply while aiding the growth rate of the plants even up to four times. All the fertilizers are natural and free from any chemical and artificial ingredients that could be harmful to human and fish so the whole system can really be considered as self-sustaining, eco-friendly, healthy, and very easy to do that even beginners can enjoy the benefits of having a backyard aquaponics.
